GLAD RAGS

SAFE. SIMPLE. SMART. PERIOD!

On a mission to positively transform the experience of menstruation through reusable menstrual products & relevant education.

GLAD RAGS STORY

Big ideas to make cloth pads and menstrual cups go mainstream and empower menstruators everywhere was the reason why Glad Rags was founded back in 1993. A small women owned business with a mission to positively change the experience of “those days” through reusable menstrual products & relevant education.

GladRags are “a bunch” of planet lovers with a focus to create high-quality reusable products rather than single-use disposable ones that harm our planet.

GladRags is currently owned by Tracy Puhl, and is located in Portland, Oregon, which occupies the traditional village sites of the Multnomah, Kathlamet, Clackamas, Tualatin Kalapuya, Molalla, Bands of the Chinook, and many other Tribes who made their homes along the Columbia River. They acknowledge and pay respect to the Native American communities of the Pacific Northwest of the past, present and future.

At the heart of the GladRags brand are their core values: inclusivity, curiosity and positivity.

Inclusivity: They see, respect, and celebrate what makes each individual unique. They make reusable products for all menstruators. They are constantly educating themselves about anti-racism and being actively anti-racist in their work. At GladRags they strive to not just include but elevate voices that have been historically marginalized or oppressed.

Curiosity: Love to try new things, learn from them, and share acquired knowledge.
“What if?” You will hear that question from them a lot of times. They always welcome points of view that differ from their own and can teach them something new. They reflect on their own perspectives and try to understand why they hold them. They listen.

Positivity: Always in a mood for humor and fun. They assume the best in others. They do not shame themselves or others for mistakes. They acknowledge when they fall short and promise to do better next time.

HOW DO THEY MAKE AN IMPACT?

GladRags is a Certified Benefit Corporation, which means that they meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose. All of their products are designed to help you reduce your impact on the planet.

Environmental and social justice is what they are committed to integrating into every aspect of how they do business. Using business as a force for good is why GladRags chose to become one of the first businesses in Oregon to pursue and receive accreditation as a certified legal Benefit Corporation.

Attention to detail and transparent and sustainable approach is in every aspect of their business. They use local bike delivery to receive finished goods from their local sewing partner and put fabric scraps to good use in the community.

GladRags recognizes the problem of waste and pays a great deal of attention to it’s reduction in manufacturing, distribution, packaging and office management.

Their shipping is also kind to Earth. They only ship in recycled, recyclable and biodegradable packaging. All of their products are proudly made in the United States while sourcing materials from local and woman-owned suppliers whenever possible.
